Esy's transfer to Real Madrid was incredibly fast, and the player's father, Juanjo Esy, recounted in an interview with Cadena SER how the family experienced the whole event firsthand.

Juanjo said: "What my son went through was like a movie plot. The night before, we had just arrived at Valdebebas to sign the contract, and soon someone told us that Mourinho wanted to meet us and say hello."
"Mourinho came over and was very kind to all of us. Then he put his arm around Carlos's neck, took him into the office, and said, 'This kid is mine.'" Juanjo added, "He talked to Carlos for a long time, explaining his position in the team and clearly telling him what expectations he had for him."
Juanjo also said in an interview with Cadena COPE Valencia: "At that time, I was having a leisurely dinner with Emilio Butragueño at the Bernabéu, waiting for everything to be settled so that the signing could be completed. The whole thing was truly extraordinary." He continued: "In the end, everything went well, and he made a huge leap."
For Juanjo, the hardest part during the negotiation was keeping it a secret and not telling anyone in the family. "It was so difficult, really difficult. I had to keep silent and not say a single word, not even to his grandmother, my mother, or my brothers. Everyone was completely unaware."
