According to Sport, Real Madrid has decided against signing a central midfielder this summer.

Mourinho's arrival initially boosted optimism at the club, but the collapse of Rodri's transfer and Barcelona's intervention tempered enthusiasm following Vinicius' contract renewal and Diomande's signing. Diomande did not travel to Hungary with the squad. Both signings were completed on the day the Ballon d'Or winner's transfer saga became public. This situation prompted extensive internal discussions at the club.

Real Madrid's hierarchy believes this summer's signings have addressed the club's most pressing needs. Rodri's arrival would have completed the transfer strategy, but with that option no longer viable, Mourinho will instead develop solutions from within the existing squad. As matters stand, Real Madrid will no longer attempt to sign a central midfielder.

The only position the club is willing to strengthen is center-back, and only if Raúl Asensio departs. Asensio suffered a muscle injury during preseason, which complicates this situation, as his departure could create space for other arrivals. This dynamic has persisted throughout the transfer window. Players like Camavinga refusing to leave has also prevented the team from bringing in replacements of comparable quality for key positions.
