According to Bild, Red Star Belgrade lost 2-0 to Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Champions League qualifiers, missing out on the Champions League group stage once again. They had already lost the first leg 1-0. Austrian star Marko Arnautović came on as a substitute in the second half, but the focus was on head coach Dejan Stanković.

The second half became a disastrous period for the venerable club, with the main issue revolving around Red Star Belgrade coach Dejan Stanković. In the 57th minute, he completely lost control on the sidelines due to a controversial penalty decision and was subsequently shown a red card by Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg.
What happened next should never occur on a football pitch. Stanković completely lost control, spitting in the direction of the referee and dramatically leaving the dugout for the players' tunnel. When the home fans booed him, he applauded in response and put his hand to his ear, further infuriating the stands.
Without their coach on the sidelines, the game started to turn in favor of the Israeli team. In the 61st minute, Serbian Igor Zlatanović scored to make it 1-0; in the 71st minute, Jamaican player Javon East added another goal, helping Hapoel Be'er Sheva secure a 2-0 victory and signaling the elimination of Arnautović's team. Red Star Belgrade will now have to contend with Viktoria Plzeň for a Europa League spot.
Stanković's antics continued after the match. Shortly after the game ended, he announced his resignation to the team in the locker room and bid farewell to the players. The customary post-match press conference was also canceled. Interestingly, a similar situation occurred in 2022 when he resigned from Red Star Belgrade after failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Red Star Belgrade management was surprised by the coach's decision and held an emergency meeting on Wednesday noon. Club president Zvezdan Terzić confirmed the coach's resignation and, referring to his controversial behavior, stated: "He cannot allow himself such behavior and such a red card when the score is 0-0." The club must submit a new head coach for the Europa League to UEFA by Friday, and negotiations are currently underway.
