According to the Manchester Evening News, with transfer activities at Old Trafford intensifying in the early summer window, and with just over two weeks until the transfer window closes, the transfer market has fallen quiet.

This week, all of Manchester United's World Cup internationals returned for pre-season training, and Marcus Rashford's return means the team no longer needs to sign a left-winger.

In the coming weeks, left-back and midfield are the positions Manchester United most need to strengthen, but currently, there are no positive signs that these positions will be reinforced by the September 1st transfer deadline. However, the transfer window situation can often change dramatically in a short period.

Given that Manchester United might be busy towards the end of the transfer window, we've opened a Q&A session, giving you the chance to ask any questions you have. Just leave your questions here, and our senior Manchester United reporter, Tyrone Marshall, will answer them.

Which current Manchester United player needs to prove themselves the most this season?

That's a good question. Marcus Rashford seems like the obvious answer, but several other players also need to prove themselves, or need to build on an excellent first season. I think the three forwards signed last summer all fall into this category; they are expected to take another step forward.

The answer could be Marcus Rashford, but to offer a different perspective, I'll choose Kobbie Mainoo. He had an outstanding second half of last season, but his World Cup journey wasn't smooth, and with increased competition in midfield, he needs to work hard to establish himself in the team.

What are our transfer plans for the number 6 position? We need a top B2B midfielder.

I think the signing for this position has already been completed, and that's Andrey Santos. I would be surprised if Manchester United signed another top number 6 at this stage of the transfer window; the team's third new midfielder will be a player in a similar price range.

Manchester United are looking for technically gifted midfielders with excellent work rates this summer, and Santos perfectly fits this description. I believe he will become a regular starter under Michael Carrick.

Has the progress of this summer's transfer window always been Manchester United's and Ineos's predetermined plan? Previously, it was widely believed that Manchester United would undertake a major midfield overhaul this summer, but it's now mid-August, and the club's only major signings have been Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for £85 million—of course, both are excellent additions. Is this the transfer process the club expected, or is it progressing slower than they anticipated?

I think the actual progress might be slower than they anticipated. While the team had planned to take a breather after a flurry of signings, I believe they initially thought they would be in a better position by now.

I still think Manchester United will make some good acquisitions towards the end of the transfer window, with two more players expected to arrive—a left-back and a midfielder. However, with two weeks remaining until the deadline, they clearly still have a lot of work to do.

Is it possible that Manchester United won't sign any more first-team players by the close of the transfer window? Cristian Orozco and Tynan Thompson have already joined, and the team currently seems interested in Luis Pearce, but these players won't immediately impact the first team. Apart from the two midfielders and Dean Henderson as a backup goalkeeper, first-team reinforcements are largely complete. It seems a large portion of Manchester United fans are losing patience. So, can fans still expect significant first-team signings before the deadline?

I would be very surprised if Manchester United didn't sign any more first-team players by the end of this transfer window. As I said before, I think the team will sign a left-back and a midfielder.

If they don't even sign a left-back, I would be absolutely shocked. I've heard that left-back is now a top priority, and the team is pushing hard to secure a signing in that position, so I believe a player will arrive to compete with Luke Shaw.

If Bruno gets injured, who will replace him?

Shay Lacey played as a number 10 multiple times in pre-season, which is very interesting, and I think he will be an important option to replace Bruno Fernandes next season. He performed excellently in that position and is extremely creative.

I would also like to see Matheus Cunha in that position. He will play as a left-winger again, but I think his best position is number 10, where he would perform exceptionally well.

This is not just a contingency plan for when Fernandes is injured; he also needs rotation this season, so Carrick needs to figure out who will replace him.

Is signing Lewis Hall completely out of the question? I fully understand that Newcastle United have made it clear they won't sell him, and having already lost several key players, they are extremely reluctant to let another important player go—especially to Manchester United. However, similar things were said about Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimarães before, and they eventually successfully joined their desired clubs.

I think it's very, very unlikely. The situation might only change if Hall strongly pushes to leave Newcastle United and Manchester United makes an extremely high offer, but neither of those scenarios seems likely at the moment.

If Hall submits a transfer request and strongly pushes for a move, then Manchester United would consider trying to make the deal happen. For players who clearly express a desire to join Old Trafford, they might be willing to pay a higher transfer fee.

But as I said, I'm not sure Hall would do that, and I would be very surprised if it happened now.

Surprisingly, Luke Shaw played all 38 Premier League games last season, but I imagine few people believe he can do the same this season. Given this, signing a new left-back becomes increasingly important, and Hall seems to perfectly fit Manchester United's needs. Is there really no scenario where Manchester United could test Newcastle United's resolve, especially if the player himself is also willing to join?

The key is that last point. Hall is indeed willing to join, but Newcastle United have no need to sell him, and they need to prevent a continuous outflow of first-team players.

Manchester United clearly needs a left-back, and they will certainly sign one. Hall is the right age, and as a 21-year-old, he already has extensive Premier League experience, making him seem like an ideal successor to Shaw, but this deal is currently very difficult to achieve.

One possibility is that Manchester United sign a lesser-known left-back this summer, and then try to sign Hall in 2027 when Shaw's contract expires.
