Manchester United manager Carrick explained why Amad was not included in the squad for the opening match against Hull City away.

"He picked up a minor injury in training at the end of the week," he said in an interview with Manchester United TV. "We will assess him to see what his current condition is.

Hopefully, he won't be out for too long, but we'll have to wait and see how the situation develops. Amad Diallo was in very good form previously.

He was in excellent competitive shape and was clearly looking forward to the new season, so this injury is disappointing, but unfortunately, it's part of football. Our squad is sufficient to cope with this situation, so we need to move forward, and we hope Amad Diallo can return soon."
