In the first round of the Premier League, promoted side Hull City defeated Manchester United 2-0 at home. After the match, Hull City manager Sergei Yakirovich was interviewed by TNT.

Sergei, congratulations on a winning start to your Premier League campaign. How proud are you of your team's performance?

Of course, I am very proud because we played well, with intensity and commitment. It wasn't easy because we knew we would have less of the ball, but we stayed compact and pressed high. When we won the ball back, we could punish the opponent. The set pieces were also excellent – exactly what we trained for over the past few days. So everything went very well, and it's a huge boost for us.

How important will two set-piece goals be for Hull City this season?

Very important, because we struggled with set pieces in attack last season. I'm not sure exactly how many we scored – maybe two or three. But what I like is when we practice something all week and then execute it on match day.

This is Hull City's first league victory over Manchester United in 52 years. That must make you very proud of what you achieved today, right?

Yes, very proud. I didn't know this information before, but I'm glad we broke that record.

How did your new signings perform? The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet, and Noël Mendy also scored and helped the team achieve a clean sheet.

The players performed very well with great concentration, and we didn't give the opponent any clear scoring opportunities. I am very satisfied with them. We still need to get to know each other better and build chemistry, which will make us even stronger.

Despite this victory, I'm sure you still want to work in the transfer window. What can Hull City fans expect?

We'll see. I know our chairman – he will definitely bring in three or four more players, especially in attack, where we lack depth. We need pace and impact. I hope we can complete these signings before the transfer window closes.

Can this victory give you confidence for survival?

Of course. I think even the players we're targeting now might find it easier to make a decision and choose to come here, because no one expected us to achieve such a result.

We know we will be fighting for survival. It will be very difficult because we still have 37 games to play. But as I said, this is a huge boost, and we must continue to perform like this.
