According to Sport, Manchester United has added Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde to their summer transfer targets. The club currently needs one left-back, with Hall and Balde being potential options.

Balde's future remains uncertain, and Manchester United has been continuously monitoring Barcelona's left-back. United's squad is essentially complete, with only the left-back position needing reinforcement.
Manchester United initially prioritized midfield reinforcement, signing André Santos and Youri Tielemans. Additionally, United signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton for €80 million. Manager Erik ten Hag is satisfied with the current squad but still wants to strengthen further, and the club has allocated budget for a left-back.
First-choice left-back Luke Shaw is 31 years old and in the final year of his contract. United hopes to sign a left-back with long-term potential to replace Shaw, and Balde is among the players the club is monitoring.
Hall is the primary target
The 22-year-old Balde is a promising option on the market with significant long-term potential. Signing him would cost around €40 million, which United can afford. However, United is also monitoring 21-year-old Lewis Hall from Newcastle.

Newcastle does not want to lose this promising left-back, and Hall's asking price is higher than Balde's. Reports from England suggest Hall's transfer fee is around €60 million, and considering Newcastle's reluctance to sell, the price could be even higher. Hall is a key player in manager Marco Rose's reconstruction plans.
All signs suggest Manchester United will make a determined effort to sign Hall. If unsuccessful, they could turn their attention to Balde in the final stages of the transfer window. Barcelona hopes Manchester United's financial strength will push the deal through.

Balde's situation at Barcelona is currently delicate. Flick dropped him from the squad against Elche as a stern warning. While Barcelona has not completely excluded him from the squad like Casadó and Fort, they would not object to his departure.
With the transfer window closing soon and most squads settled, it will be difficult for Balde to receive any significant offers. Benfica previously showed interest but only offered €20 million. Aston Villa also inquired about signing Balde after he was placed on the transfer list.
Balde must find a new club before September 1st. Joining Manchester United could be an ideal solution for all parties, but the final decision from United's board remains pending.
