According to Sport, Miguel Galán, president of the Spanish National Coach Training Center (CENAFE), has publicly accused Atlético Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín of obstructing Álvarez's transfer to Barcelona and has questioned whether there is a conflict of interest in his simultaneous roles as Atlético Madrid executive and La Liga first vice-president.

Galán recently stated on social media that Gil Marín is preventing Álvarez from joining Barcelona and is pushing the Argentine striker toward a move to the Premier League. However, this claim has only come from Galán so far, and no relevant parties have publicly confirmed it.

In his social media post, Galán pointed to Gil Marín's role at La Liga. He stated: "Gil Marín is preventing Julián Álvarez from joining Barcelona and has already placed a ban on the club." He also questioned why La Liga president Tebas had not responded to this.

In Galán's view, the issue with Gil Marín's position is that he is not only Atlético Madrid's chief executive but also La Liga's first vice-president. If he is involved in a transfer deal directly concerning Barcelona, there may be a conflict of interest between his two roles as an Atlético Madrid executive and a La Liga official.

"There is a clear conflict of interest in Miguel Ángel Gil Marín's institutional position," Galán said, adding that, as a La Liga official, Gil Marín should uphold the interests of the entire league and remain neutral toward all clubs within it.

Galán believes this issue should be resolved through a more transparent mechanism, with a clear distinction between Gil Marín's responsibilities at Atlético Madrid and La Liga. According to him, Gil Marín should either step down from his league position or recuse himself from negotiations involving Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, and Álvarez.

Galán also noted that if Álvarez ultimately joins the Premier League, it would be a loss for La Liga, as the league would lose a top star and its overall competitiveness and appeal could be diminished.

Finally, Galán called on sports authorities to intervene and investigate the matter. He said: "The solution requires transparency, recusal, and consistency." He also believes the matter can be reported to the Spanish Higher Sports Council (CSD).
