Before Chelsea's League Cup second-round match against Luton, defender Reece Gusto spoke to the club's official media.

Gusto played as a right wing-back in Chelsea's first-round away victory over Fulham, and it quickly became clear how important the wing-back position would be under manager Enzo Maresca.

Gusto said: "I played this position at Lyon."

"So I know this position very well, and I really enjoy playing it. You need to put in a lot of energy – constantly running forward and defending well in that area.

You have to try to perform at your best in both phases of the game, offensively and defensively. It's a very good system, but of course, as a team, we need to be prepared for any situation."

Gusto said he enjoys working with the manager and that there is great respect within the squad for his achievements as a player and coach. He noted that the manager has a "clear plan" for Chelsea.

From a personal perspective, Gusto benefited from the rest period following the World Cup, where he helped France finish fourth. With 3 points secured and upcoming home matches against Luton and Brighton, Gusto is excited about the prospect of a special season at Stamford Bridge.

"The rest period was good for my body, and I feel great now. I can't wait to return to Chelsea and focus on our new objectives.

As Chelsea players, we want to compete for titles and return to the Champions League next season.

We have many goals, and to achieve them, we need to build good momentum as a team and then see what happens."
