On September 3rd, the Premier League officially announced the shortlist for the August Player of the Month, which includes Calafiori, Cherki, Bruno Fernandes, Palmer, João Pedro, Sangaré, Tzolakis, and Wissa.

Premier League August Player of the Month Candidates:

Calafiori (Arsenal)

2 appearances, 2 wins, 2 assists, 2 clean sheets

For a defender, 2 assists in 2 games is quite impressive. So far this season, Arsenal have not conceded a goal in their matches against Coventry and Aston Villa, allowing the opposition only one shot on target combined.

Calafiori impressed with his overlapping runs down the flank. His precise low cross assisted Kai Havertz for Arsenal's first goal of the season, and against Villa, his cross set up Saka for an easy tap-in to secure the win.

Cherki (Manchester City)

The attacking midfielder was instrumental in Manchester City's perfect start with two goals and two assists. In the first match against Bournemouth, when Manchester City were trailing, Cherki came off the bench and provided two assists in the closing stages to help turn the tide.

In the match against Crystal Palace, he started and scored a brilliant individual goal—dribbling past four defenders before slotting the ball into the corner—then doubled his tally with a powerful shot from 20 yards out.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

Bruno Fernandes delivered a stunning performance in Manchester United's big win over Ipswich, making him a strong contender for Player of the Month. He scored a hat-trick within 28 minutes: before half-time, he equalized with a powerful shot, then calmly converted a penalty, and finally completed his hat-trick with a precise finish. In addition, Bruno Fernandes also provided an assist for Mbeumo's goal.

Palmer (Chelsea)

2 appearances, 2 wins, 2 goals, 1 assist

Scoring the winning goal in both matches, Palmer has made a perfect start to the season. One goal was a brilliant solo effort against Brighton, and the other was a tight-angle finish through Fulham goalkeeper Leno's legs.

In the match against Fulham, Palmer also assisted João Pedro's goal less than a minute into the game. Palmer is in excellent form, combining well with João Pedro in Chelsea's attacking system.

New signing Mamadou Sangaré was key to Brentford's unbeaten start to the season. In the 3-0 win over Tottenham, he combined brilliantly with a teammate in a one-two, then crossed for Lewis-Potter to score.

The versatile midfielder dominated the midfield, contributing 27 defensive actions, including 12 tackles, 6 challenges, and 5 interceptions. He also won 12 duels and created 4 chances.

Tzolakis (Hull City)

Tzolakis faced 8 shots and conceded no goals, helping Hull City achieve a perfect record after two matches. In Hull City's first match, he made 5 saves against 21 shots, helping the team defeat Manchester United, then kept another clean sheet against Coventry.

Wissa (Brentford)
