According to Goal.com, England striker Ollie Watkins has revealed his reasons for joining the Saudi League this summer.

Watkins transferred from Aston Villa to Al-Hilal this summer. He came off the bench last Tuesday, helping the team defeat Al-Ahli 3-0 and scoring a goal, before starting Friday's 2-0 victory over Al-Shabab, where he failed to score.

After the match, Watkins explained his reasons for joining the Saudi League in an interview with Saudi publication Asharq Al-Awsat: "For me, I wanted to take on a new challenge that was presented to me and my family."

He said: "We have lived in England all our lives, and coming here to experience a new culture is truly a fantastic experience."

He added: "Everyone has welcomed us warmly and provided tremendous support. To play for a club like Al-Hilal is an incredible opportunity for me. I came here to win championships and trophies."

Watkins then stated: "The pace of the game is very good. Due to the high temperatures, the match sometimes slows down, which is normal, but there are many world-class players in the league, and I will quickly adapt to the climate conditions here."

The striker also made a promise to Al-Hilal fans: "I promise the fans that I will score many goals."

He said: "I didn't participate in preseason training, so I am now working to regain my fitness and match sharpness. You will see me soon, and I hope that in the upcoming matches, you will see me score more than one goal per game."

He continued: "I played the full match today, and it felt different from what I'm used to. Many new players have recently joined Al-Hilal, and I am one of them. We are all currently in the integration and adaptation phase."

He concluded: "Our chemistry and understanding will definitely improve over time, but for us, the most important thing right now is to win and get all three points."
