Fenerbahçe is in disarray on Friday. According to Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, one day after the 1-1 draw against Roma in the Champions League, head coach Erol Kartal, who submitted his resignation immediately after the match, is currently missing. Kuyt and Zeki Göle are leading the team's training.

Kuyt, who joined Fenerbahçe as an assistant coach this summer, is temporarily standing in for Kartal. Sabuncuoğlu reported that club management hopes to make contact with Kartal later today.

The challenge now is whether Fenerbahçe can reach their coach. Sabuncuoğlu revealed that Kartal has switched off his phone and is currently unreachable.

The dramatic situation stems from events in Istanbul on Thursday night. Following Fenerbahçe's 1-1 draw against Roma in the Champions League, Kartal unexpectedly announced his resignation during the post-match press conference.

Shortly before this announcement, Kartal had praised his players at length. He then declared his departure: "Tonight, I want to congratulate my players and announce my resignation from my position. I want to thank the fans, the media, my coaching staff, and my players for all the support they have shown me."

Kartal stated that he made this decision for the benefit of Fenerbahçe. "I made this decision to step aside for the club's sake. We made this decision together as a team," the coach said, adding that he had no intention of returning to the same position in the future.

However, chairman Aziz Yıldırım refused to accept Kartal's resignation. "He is still our coach, and I have already told him so. We will move forward together as a family. He will remain head coach as long as I am chairman," Yıldırım stated.

Yıldırım attributed Kartal's decision to an incident where a water bottle was thrown at his head during the match. According to Turkish media reports, the person responsible has been arrested.
