The 34-year-old Ter Stegen was reportedly one of the first players Klopp contacted after taking office. On September 24, Germany will play the Netherlands away, and Ter Stegen is expected to feature. For Ter Stegen, this Nations League match holds special significance as it will be played at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Ajax's home ground.

Ter Stegen left an injury-plagued Barcelona this summer to join Ajax on a one-season loan. This loan gives Ter Stegen a chance to revitalise his career with the German national team. Currently, Ter Stegen has established himself as Ajax's starting goalkeeper, having played 7 official matches this season.

This will be Ter Stegen's first appearance for the German national team since June 8, 2024.
