35-year-old Colombia captain James announced on social media that he would officially retire from the Colombian national team, ending his national team career.

James wrote on social media: "This moment has finally arrived.

Thank you for every match we've played side by side, thank you for the cheers in victory, and thank you for the tears after defeat. Thank you for the glory, regrets, and dreams we've shared.

To be able to wear the Colombian national team jersey and fight for this land is one of the greatest honors of my career. Every time I step onto the field, every time I hear the national anthem, it becomes an unforgettable memory in my life.

Thank you, Colombia.

Thank you for everything you've given me, and thank you to everyone who has always supported me.

This journey may have come to an end, but this love and pride will never cease.

Since his first appearance for the Colombian national team in 2011, James has long served as the team's core and later became the national team captain. By the time he retired from the national team, he had played 131 matches for Colombia, scoring 31 goals and providing 43 assists.

In his national team career, James participated in three World Cups: 2014, 2018, and 2026. Among them, the 2014 Brazil World Cup was one of the most brilliant national team events of his career.

In the 2014 World Cup, James made 5 appearances for Colombia, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists, ultimately winning the World Cup Golden Boot. His volley after a chest trap against Uruguay in the Round of 16 was also voted the best goal of that World Cup. With his outstanding performance, James also won the FIFA Puskás Award in 2014.

In the subsequent 2018 World Cup, James continued to represent Colombia. In the 2026 World Cup, he once again joined the team, marking his third World Cup appearance.
