According to AS, the 2024–25 La Liga season saw a record-breaking 189 VAR interventions, surpassing the previous record of 179 interventions in the 2022–23 season.

This increase is attributed to:
• A higher number of referee errors this season, and

Of the 189 interventions:
• 62 were related to goals
• 86 were related to penalties
• 40 were red card decisions
• 1 involved mistaken identity
