Kevin Muscat's proposed move to Rangers has collapsed, Sky Sports News understands.

Talks for Muscat to succeed Russell Martin had reached an advanced stage, with Rangers prepared to make a significant commitment to bring the 52-year-old to Ibrox.

But Muscat remains under contract at Chinese Super League side Shanghai Port, who are involved in a title race.

The prospect of a delayed start - potentially into December - are understood to have made the practicalities of an appointment unworkable.
