According to RMC, two Peruvian police officers dressed as FIFA World Cup mascots arrested a drug dealer in Lima on the eve of the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.

From Thursday until July 19, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, will ignite global excitement. Carlos Cabrera is among those suspected of drug trafficking. Several American media outlets revealed that the 48-year-old Peruvian, nicknamed Pichichi, might pay a heavy price for his obsession with the FIFA World Cup.

After learning of his near-fanatical love for football, the police dispatched two officers to his residence in Lima and carried out the arrest during the opening ceremony in Mexico City.

During the performances by Shakira and Andrea Bocelli, two officers from the Green Squadron suddenly appeared at Carlos Cabrera's home. As La Dépêche reported on Friday, these two police officers disguised themselves as the 2026 FIFA World Cup mascots, Maple and Clutch, thereby evading the drug dealer's surveillance. These two mascots, inspired by this FIFA World Cup, represent the Canadian moose and the American bald eagle, respectively.

Police Seize Drugs and Weapons

Although it sounds incredible, local media have not yet reported much on this, but this bizarre arrest is indeed real. A video released by the Peruvian Ministry of Interior on social media shows two police officers even using a battering ram to break down the door, then arresting the suspected drug dealer.

The Peruvian government's official communiqué stated: "Officers from the Terna team, disguised as FIFA World Cup mascots, arrested Pichichi, a suspected small-scale drug dealer operating from his home."

According to LMTOnline, police seized 2,524 packets of cocaine base paste during the raid on the Lima residence. While congratulating the success of the operation, local authorities also confirmed the seizure of marijuana, a firearm, and ammunition. Police also confiscated a large amount of cash and multiple mobile phones.
