Official news: The French Professional Football League has issued an announcement regarding unusual betting activity following the match between Nice and Metz.

The day after the Ligue 1 matchday 34 game between Nice and Metz on May 17, the LFP received alerts from its sports betting market monitoring partner about unusual betting trends internationally. These alerts concerned an unusually high volume of bets related to player Wahi receiving a yellow card.
In accordance with its responsibilities and long-standing commitment to maintaining the integrity of competitions, the LFP immediately forwarded the relevant materials to the competent authorities, including the French National Police's Central Department for Racing and Gaming, the French National Gambling Authority, and the French Football Federation.
To ascertain all the facts, the LFP filed a criminal complaint on May 29, 2026, against unidentified persons regarding facts that may involve sports corruption and organized fraud.
Given that the procedure is still ongoing and the police have requested confidentiality from the LFP, the LFP will not make further comments and has not yet initiated disciplinary proceedings. However, the LFP reserves the right to take relevant action based on the progress of the investigation.

According to The Athletic, Ivorian striker Wahi was arrested on suspicion of match-fixing-related offenses before participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Multiple anonymous sources confirmed that 23-year-old Wahi is under investigation to determine whether he intentionally received a yellow card in the May 17 match against Metz while playing for Nice.
Wahi was arrested by French police on May 29. At the time, he had just scored two goals in Nice's victory over Saint-Étienne, helping the team successfully avoid relegation.
