On June 18, during the second match of Group B in the FIFA World Cup, host nation Canada defeated Qatar 6-0. Following the match, Canada's head coach Jesse Marsch was interviewed.

Have you spoken with Ismaël Koné since the match? How is he doing? On one hand it's a huge victory, but on the other you've lost a player. What are your emotions?

"I haven't spoken with him yet. He's been taken to the hospital and will undergo surgery. I'm heading to the hospital right after this press conference to learn about his specific follow-up arrangements. His family is with him, including his mother."

"That incident happened right in front of our bench, and all of us heard the sound, you know what I mean. I immediately knew something was terribly wrong. It felt very similar to when Buchanan was injured during training before. Everyone heard the sound of the bone breaking clearly. This moment is heartbreaking, and the entire team has been affected greatly—not just because of the serious injury, but because Ismaël is one of the most important pillars of our team's spirit."

"For us, this will be a huge loss. He's performed excellently in the last two matches. But as you saw, he was still waving to the fans as he was carried off the field, as if he was comforting people and telling them not to worry about him. That's Ismaël's character—truly admirable."

It seems you had a confrontation with Qatar's head coach Lopetegui?

"I don't want to talk about that at all; it's not worth wasting time on."

Do you think Qatar's players were too aggressive? What's your view on the physical contact in the match?

"No, before that injury occurred, the match was generally normal. In the first half, we had overwhelming control. I imagine their coach definitely motivated the team during halftime, not wanting the scoreline to expand to four goals, because then they'd need to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in the final group match to qualify."

"We also had our own objectives. We needed to win by four goals so we wouldn't necessarily have to beat Switzerland in the final group match."

"Physical contact did become more intense in the latter stages of the match. But I must clarify that the player who committed the foul afterward came to the locker room personally to apologize to Ismaël, and Ismaël also explained the situation to the entire team. So I don't think it was an intentional foul meant to injure someone, and I won't blame him for it."

"What I don't understand is why Qatar's entire bench rushed in to protest after the red card decision, even though the action was very clear and actually resulted in a serious injury. That was really strange. But ultimately, our focus remains on Koné and the match itself."

Canada only needs to win the next group match to finish top of the table. How will you adjust over the next six days? Is your long-term plan on track? Will the team's morale be affected?

"When I took over this team, I quickly noticed that the players have very tight bonds, they trust each other, and they love representing their country. I've reinforced this atmosphere, but often I don't need to intervene too much."

"In moments like this, I feel they truly don't need me; they have the strength to support each other."

"The players' families are also here. Tomorrow we're also having a family barbecue so everyone can relax. I believe Ismaël will be in everyone's hearts, and we all know he'll come back stronger than before and rebuild his confidence."

"We'll make sure he receives the best medical care. His career is still long and will be very bright."

"You can say the right things and do the right things, but you need moments like today—moments people will remember. No Canadian will forget today."

"I know why you're asking about him; we know him well. I've said before that you should be prepared to give him high praise."

"If we want to succeed in this tournament, David needs to shoulder responsibility in attack. His first goal came from a shot he created himself, and then he completed a hat-trick, performing excellently throughout the match."
