In the opening match of the new Premier League season, Man United suffered a 0-2 defeat away to Hull City. After the match, Man United defender Luke Shaw spoke to Stan Sports.

Luke, thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us. How would you assess your performance in this match?
I think it was disappointing. We knew their strengths—set pieces, crosses from both wings, and balls into the box. There were times when we defended well, but obviously, we didn't perform well enough on the goals we conceded from set pieces. We knew very well that they were dangerous at set pieces, and that cost us the match today.
You mentioned set pieces. How frustrating was it to concede both goals from set-piece situations in the first half?
Yes, it’s really disappointing. This isn’t our level. As I said, we knew this could happen. I think, as a team, we could have prepared more thoroughly, especially given how strong they are at set pieces. We discussed it, but in attack, we lacked decisive finishing today, which meant we couldn’t score or get back into the game through our play.
It’s probably difficult to say for certain now, but why do you think you lacked that finishing touch? You had a fair amount of possession and dominated the second half, but struggled in front of goal.
Yes, I can’t say for sure. But before I continue, I want to be clear: there are no excuses for today’s performance. That said, it is still early in the season, and perhaps our players are still finding their rhythm. But as I said, that is absolutely no excuse. We came here with no disrespect to Hull, but we should have won this match. We didn’t today, and we need to analyze what went wrong. I think we know the problem, but we need to keep working on it and improving based on that.
