On September 1st, EFL Championship club Bolton Wanderers announced that they have signed Canadian international striker Theo Bair on loan from Ligue 1 club Auxerre on a season-long deal with an option to buy. The agreement is pending approval from the English Football League (EFL), international transfer clearance, and visa requirements.

The 27-year-old Bair has demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess in English football. He had a breakthrough season with Motherwell, scoring 15 goals across all competitions in 2023/24, earning the club's Player of the Season award and a place in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year. That impressive performance earned him a four-year contract with Auxerre, where he began a new challenge in French football.

Bair's journey began in Ottawa, Canada's capital. He developed through the local youth football system before being selected by Vancouver Whitecaps and joining their academy at age 15.

In 2019, Bair made his MLS debut. He later had a loan spell at Norwegian club HamKam, helping them gain promotion. In January 2022, he moved to Scotland to join St Johnstone, and subsequently played for Motherwell, where he became a key attacking player for the club.

As a versatile striker, Bair possesses excellent aerial ability and is comfortable with both feet. He can finish in the box and create threats with his movement. He uses his pace to break through defensive lines and is skilled at holding up play with his back to goal, contributing to the team's build-up play.

At international level, Bair has earned over 20 caps for Canada. He made his senior debut in January 2020 in a match against Barbados, scoring a goal. He was also named in Canada's squad for Copa América 2024.

Bair's arrival further strengthens Bolton's attacking firepower, and he will be reunited with fellow Canadian international and former national team teammate Jayden Nelson. The two have known each other for nearly 10 years and are very familiar with one another.

In an interview with Bolton's official website, Bair said: "I've known about the club's interest for a while now, and when I saw this stadium, I knew I wanted to come here. Now that everything is finally done, I'm very happy."

"I know Bolton has a glorious history, and this club belongs in the Premier League, so our goal is certainly to get back there. But right now, I'm really excited to be part of this."

"When I told my family that I was joining Bolton, they all said, 'Oh, Bolton, *the* Bolton!' It's been special for all of us. The first time I came here and saw the surroundings, I even got goosebumps because this is my dream."

On his playing style, Bair said: "In Scotland, my manager used to describe me as a complete player. I can hold the ball with my back to goal, I can shoot with both feet, I like to run beyond the defense, and I like to link play with my teammates. But the most important thing is scoring goals. I love scoring, it's what I love most, and it's the best feeling in the world."

"Whether it's scoring, helping the team keep the ball, or completing other tasks, I want to help the team as much as possible. I want this team to succeed and win more matches."

On reuniting with Nelson, Bair said: "Jayden and I have known each other for nearly 10 years. We've roomed together on international duty, so we're very close. I told him he should come here, and then he told me I should join Bolton. We convinced each other that this is the best place for us."

"His ability is excellent, and the fans have already seen some of what he can do. I'm excited to link up with him and start scoring together."

Finally, Bair said: "I'm eager to play in front of the fans. I look forward to going through this season with them and working hard to achieve success."
