According to Diario Sport, Barcelona has implemented a different strategy this summer when dealing with La Masia players unable to join the first team, selling them while retaining future resale percentages and including buyback clauses for some players.

Barcelona's approach to handling La Masia players in this transfer window is quite noteworthy. These players were unable to join Hansi Flick's first team and could not continue playing for Barcelona Atlètic in Segunda Federación.

Most cases remained unresolved until late in the transfer window. Although Flick was familiar with all the players, the German coach wanted to observe each one during preseason before making final decisions. Jofre, Tommy, Espart, Guille, Toni, and Álvaro Cortés all received guidance from him at various stages. In fact, with the exception of Guille Fernández, all of them made their first-team debut under Flick.

Retaining Future Resale Percentages

The club made clear from the outset that the primary objective was to complete transfers. Barcelona hopes to generate revenue that helps meet financial fair play rules and improve the club's financial situation while maintaining some control over these players.

All agreements include a future resale percentage, which varies. The resale percentage for Jofre, Toni, and Álvaro Cortés is 50%, for Guille it is 40%, and for Tommy it is slightly lower.

Buyback clauses are structured based on transfer fees. Braga paid 11 million euros for Tommy, plus variable add-ons worth 3 million euros, so Barcelona did not include a buyback clause. However, Barcelona retained buyback rights for Guille, Toni, and Jofre Torrents, all of which will be active in 2028, the second year after the transfer.

If the buyer is willing to pay a higher transfer fee, negotiations may be adjusted. This is a principle established by the technical department led by Deco: the higher the transfer fee, the lower the future resale percentage Barcelona retains.

Sport previously reported that Jofre Torrents' buyback clause is set at 14 million euros. The buyback clauses for Guille and Toni are also expected to be in the range of 10 to 15 million euros.

The Catalan club has high expectations for all of their development, and Álvaro Cortés is expected to continue improving as well. This player is perhaps the most mature at present, having become an undisputed starter at Royal Antwerp. He is poised to develop into a top-level professional player.
