According to the latest report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United has planned to open a fan zone behind the Stretford End stand, but faces opposition from local residents.

Last month, Manchester United announced a proposal for The Paddock, a venue with a capacity of 1,300 people, which they hope to open behind the Stretford End stand before the club's autumn matches begin. They claim they are responding to fan requests and the fan zone will provide "food, drinks, and entertainment."

However, the fan zone requires planning permission, and some residents living near the iconic stadium are not convinced. A petition with 50 signatures has been submitted to Trafford Council, in which local residents have listed various concerns about the plan.

Some have raised concerns about potential "noise pollution" and argued that the club completely overlooked surrounding residents when selecting the location, with the only reason being that the area will not take up profitable parking spaces.

Manchester United has also been accused of disregarding the quality of life of nearby residents and only considering "what is best for themselves." One resident wrote: "They have many other locations to choose from where the additional noise they create would not directly affect residents, but they chose to place the fan zone close to residents."

The petition states that the fan zone is "only 110 meters" from nearby residential areas and will operate an additional 6 hours per session for 19 to 30 events each year. There are 36 households within 150 meters of the proposed location, including families with young children, elderly people, and shift workers — all of whom will be affected by the increased noise.

Manchester United states that this free-entry venue will only open on match days, and they will fully cooperate in liaising with residents. They also added that the stadium will comply with noise management guidelines and claimed that further work is being carried out to address resident concerns, including soundproofing measures and ensuring speakers are placed away from residential areas. A final decision will be announced in due course.
