The American businessman and his partners Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss are set to sell their 38.5% stake in the club to Clearlake Capital, hoping to make a modest profit.

This will increase Behdad Eghbali's stake at Clearlake Capital in the club from 61.5% to 99.9%.

A spokesman for Walter told Bloomberg: "This potential transaction values Mark Walter's stake in Chelsea Football Club above his initial investment, marking another successful sports investment for him. Following this exit, Mr. Walter intends to pursue further sports-related investments in the future."

Chelsea's change of ownership in 2022 saw the consortium pay £2.5 billion, with an additional commitment to invest £1.75 billion into the club.

It remains unclear how much Boehly, Walter, and Wyss will each receive in cash for their respective 12.83% stakes.

Upon completion, full control of the club will transfer to Eghbali and his business partner José E. Feliciano.

Despite his impending departure, Boehly recently attended a Chelsea match.

Last week, he was at Emirates Stadium watching the team lose 1-2 to Arsenal.

Boehly owns Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers and also holds a stake in WNBA side Los Angeles Sparks alongside Walter.

Walter, 66, is under investigation by U.S. prosecutors for alleged financial violations.
