Van Dijk has been reluctant to discuss his future with the Dutch national team publicly. He demonstrated this once again at the "Van Dijk Legend Trophy," a youth tournament held annually in Tilburg by the Dutch international.

"I didn't think anyone would ask about the Dutch team. But you'll find out soon enough," Van Dijk said in an interview with ESPN on Sunday.

Van Dijk met with head coach Ronald Koeman last week, who attended Liverpool's pre-season friendly against Atlético Madrid. Next week, it will be announced whether the captain will be included in the final squad for the Nations League matches against Germany and Greece.

After Euro 2024, Van Dijk had doubts about his future with the Dutch team. Koeman eventually persuaded him to continue playing for the national team.

The Liverpool captain also spoke briefly about the youth tournament named after him in an interview with Brabants Dagblad. "Yesterday we only finished playing with Liverpool at noon, and I still had to go to training in the late afternoon, and now I'm already here. That should show how important this is to me, shouldn't it?"

Van Dijk's greatest hope is that he can make an impact on the young players at this tournament. "The lives of 12 or 13-year-old boys are very demanding, but we can also see that some 16-year-old players have already made their professional debut. Who knows, maybe this weekend we'll see a player here who could win the Champions League in three years and perhaps score the winning goal in the final. That would be wonderful."
