Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes VAR officials made a mistake in allowing Man City's decisive goal in their 1-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Haaland's goal was initially disallowed on the pitch for offside, but VAR overturned the decision. VAR officials determined that Haaland was not in an offside position when challenged by Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

However, Manchester City midfielder Enzo Fernández was in an offside position when he attempted to touch the ball before it reached Haaland. Although Enzo did not make contact with the ball, his movement appeared to interfere with Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez's positioning. Under football rules, the goal should have been disallowed.

The Premier League Match Centre previously posted on social media explaining why the goal was allowed: "VAR reviewed the on-field offside decision that resulted in the goal being disallowed and determined that Haaland was in a legal position, therefore recommending the goal be allowed. VAR also determined that although Enzo was in an offside position, he did not touch the ball."

Gary Neville stated: "I think the clauses in the law are sufficient for PGMOL to issue a clear apology. There is no doubt that Enzo attempted to touch the ball and interfered with Lisandro Martínez's positioning. It's a strange decision, and they will realize they made a mistake."
