March, 32, whose contract with Brighton & Hove Albion expired at the end of last season, recently appeared on talkSPORT to discuss his current situation and plans.

March left Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of last season, concluding an extraordinary 15-year career with the club. The decision came as a slight surprise to the 32-year-old veteran, but he ultimately accepted it as Brighton & Hove Albion sought to "go in a different direction" by bringing in younger players.

However, March's ties with Brighton & Hove Albion have not been completely severed – the club has allowed him to use their training facilities while he searches for his next team.

Finding a new home

Becoming a free agent is unfamiliar territory for March. He made a total of 300 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion, but the last three seasons have been affected by injuries. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old remains calm, waiting for the "right opportunity" to arise.

March stated: "It's a strange situation for me. I've never been in this position before; I've always been at Brighton & Hove Albion. Not having a club affiliation is a bit of an unknown. I'm still waiting for the right opportunity. But I'm in good physical condition, which is the most important thing, and I feel good."

Where does March hope to continue his career?

After leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, March has not been short of offers, some of which are from overseas. But at this stage, playing abroad "will probably not" be an option for March; he would prefer to stay closer to home.

March said: "For me personally, I still want to play in the Premier League, and I absolutely believe I can still do it. Maybe I need to be patient, I don't know. But it's not easy; you get restless, being home alone, training alone."

March was Brighton & Hove Albion's versatile player

Whichever club signs March will acquire an extremely versatile player. Throughout his career, March has played on both wings, in central midfield, and even as a left wing-back when needed. His best performances came as a right winger under Roberto De Zerbi's management at Brighton & Hove Albion.

In the 2022/23 Premier League season, March scored 7 goals, making him Brighton & Hove Albion's third-highest scorer and helping the team secure sixth place, the club's highest-ever finish in the top flight. Although March has not been able to reach that goal-scoring height since that season, he firmly believes he still has much to contribute on and off the field.

March stated: "I can play in many positions, and I think I possess qualities that perhaps many Premier League teams don't have, and experience also helps. When you've played 300 games, you know what to do, and you can help younger players and give them advice. I still believe I have the ability... I feel good, the best I've felt in two years. It's just about waiting for the right opportunity; patience is key."
