Salinas was previously viewed by United as a potential alternative to Lewis Hall, with Newcastle's Hall remaining United's primary left-back target this summer.

According to Sport, Salinas currently prefers joining Barcelona over accepting offers from other clubs. Barcelona is aware of United's interest in the young defender, but the Hansi Flick-led side maintains the advantage in negotiations.

Salinas believes joining Barcelona would be more beneficial for his development, and he is currently waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement on a transfer.

It is understood that Salinas hopes for an amicable departure from Racing Santander, the club recently promoted to La Liga. If Barcelona wants to avoid prolonged negotiations, the most direct route would be to trigger the player's release clause valued at €16 million (approximately £13.7 million).

However, Barcelona has previously been reluctant to pay the full release clause directly, so negotiations between the two sides are ongoing. Meanwhile, United is prepared to pay the release clause, but the club's top priority remains Hall.
