Benny Carboni spent several seasons in England, both as a player and as Leeds United's U21 coach, and he holds a special fondness for Inter Milan. Carboni is well-positioned to comment on Inter Milan's "Premier League pathway" with three consecutive signings: Stones, Spence, and now Curtis Jones.

Carboni, let's start by analyzing the three players Marotta and Ausilio brought to Milan.
"I also want to mention Ausilio's deputy, Baccin. These three work in perfect harmony and have a very clear vision. They are Inter Milan's real secret—they manage the entire system so well that new signings immediately feel at home and perform at their best."
Let's start with Stones.
"He has elevated the team. This player is very influential, perfectly suited to play as a fullback, with strength, the ability to push into space and attack, and capable of dribbling and creating impact in the attacking phase. Like Dumfries initially, outsiders doubted he could fill the gap Hakimi left, and he also needed time to absorb Chivu's defensive principles, to understand positioning runs and adapt to his teammates. But his key role for England at the World Cup showed his importance."
Stones is a higher-class player who brings experience and a winning mentality.
"This is an exceptional-quality player who made his mark at Manchester City. Even at 32, he remains a higher-class player capable of bringing experience and a winning mentality, and his aerial ability is top-tier. He can play as a center-back or as a fullback, and can also push up into midfield to create numerical advantages. He has strong game-reading ability, and his aerial challenges in the opponent's box are very dangerous. He will make a difference, just as Akanji did before."
Let's talk about Curtis Jones.
"He's only 25, just one year younger than Spence. He's had several very good seasons at Liverpool, but with The Reds' high-quality squad, it's been difficult for him to find playing time. However, he is a player of a different caliber. He's very versatile, full of energy, and excellent at dribbling forward. If, as I believe, he comes understanding that he'll also need to compete for a position at Inter Milan, he will make a major contribution."
All three signings come from the Premier League. You played in England—what is the real difference in English football?
"It's the mentality. Kids there are accustomed to running at full pace in larger spaces from a young age. Our tactical level isn't inferior to anyone's, but they have a different training method and less pressure during the week. Training sessions are shorter, often just 60 to 70 minutes, but no one holds back. Everyone gives their all in training, and afterward, everyone is still friends. I coached Leeds United U21, and many times I even had to tell the players to slow down..."
What's your view on the Serie A title race?
"Inter Milan is leading thanks to squad depth, technical consistency, and the Chivu factor. Cristian's influence isn't just tactical but also in how he manages the team like an older brother, though he shows no favoritism in deciding who plays. After Inter Milan, I like Napoli and Milan, with Milan having strengthened considerably."
What about the Premier League?
"With their squad depth and years of Arteta's work, Arsenal is the Inter Milan of England. And now the Gunners' squad also has more depth. But don't let the Community Shield win create illusions. In the Premier League, nothing is certain—anything can really happen."
Finally, tell us about yourself. You just finished two years coaching Inter Milan's youth team. How proud are you seeing so many of your players go on the pre-season tour with Chivu?
"Very proud. Despite difficulties with establishing the U23 team, which made my squad younger—we even had to use players born in 2009—we still came close to reaching the Youth Champions League semi-finals, won a Supercoppa, and reached the quarter-finals of that competition. I'm very pleased to see Bovio, Idrisu, as well as Cerpelletti, Mancuso, and others move up to the first team. Now I'm waiting for the right opportunity to return to coaching."
