Newcastle United has reached an agreement to purchase Woolsington Estate as the site for constructing a new world-class training facility.

According to official sources from Newcastle United, the club has reached an agreement to acquire Woolsington Estate, with plans to build a new world-class training complex there.
This agreement was reached after a meticulous process of identifying and securing a suitable plot of land. The site is located within Newcastle city boundaries and offers convenient access to Newcastle International Airport and existing public transport networks.
The club will acquire 260 acres of land south of the airport, which includes a derelict listed country manor and its surrounding grounds.
Subject to planning permission, this site will be redeveloped to include new, top-tier training facilities for both the men's first team and the Academy, with a total project investment of £190 million.
The club anticipates formally submitting the planning application in early 2027, with the goal of having the men's first team move in by the 2029/30 season.
The master plan for Woolsington Estate will also retain flexibility for future incorporation of bespoke training facilities for women's and girls' teams.
This phased approach ensures both current investment and long-term sustainability.
The club is committed to developing this project in a sustainable and responsible manner and will work closely with local communities and authorities throughout the planning process.
A Revitalized Vision
This project is a significant long-term investment by the club's current owners, PIF and RB Sports & Media, looking towards the future.
Woolsington Estate was previously acquired in 1994 by former Newcastle United owner and chairman Sir John Hall, who hoped to develop the estate into an academy facility for the club.
Under the current ownership of Newcastle United, this vision has been fully upgraded to create an integrated, top-tier
training environment to support the team's long-term on-field success.
Coming Home
Brad Lennon-Miller, Chief Operating Officer of Newcastle United, stated: "This is a homecoming for Newcastle United,
as Sir John Hall had sketched out the original blueprint for this land in the 1990s.
"Woolsington Estate will be an excellent location for our new training facility, so we are delighted to have finally secured the land acquisition agreement.
"We are developing a very exciting plan for the estate, which includes renovating and enhancing the listed buildings and grounds, and retaining them as key components of the overall design.
"Our goal is to create world-class facilities for players and staff in a considered and thoughtful manner, while showcasing the inherent beauty of the land itself and preserving it for future generations.
"This is a very complex project. We will now enter a rigorous planning process, but we will demonstrate our ability to create an iconic project that the club, fans, community, and the entire region can be proud of.
"We look forward to engaging with planning authorities, fans, and relevant stakeholders on this exciting plan. Our aim is to drive the project forward in a sustainable and responsible manner, to build a facility for the city and the entire region that we can be immensely proud of."
A Landmark Moment
Jonathan David-Hopkinson, CEO of Newcastle United, said: "This is a landmark moment for Newcastle United.
"Subject to planning permission, our proposed training complex will provide a world-class training environment for all teams. We will build bespoke, specialized facilities, focusing on future sustainable success, allowing players, coaches, and staff to perform at their best every day.
"We will submit a detailed planning application that not only showcases our vision but also explains how we will protect and enhance this historic estate, its biodiversity and wildlife habitats, and how we will be a good neighbor.
"I would like to thank everyone who has brought the project to this point, and also express my gratitude to Sir John and the Hall family."
Next Steps
The club is proceeding with the necessary procedures to formally complete the land acquisition. In addition, the club is about to initiate pre-application consultations, engaging with local authorities, residents, and the community.
Subsequently, a detailed planning application is expected to be finalized and submitted to Newcastle City Council in early 2027. The future arrangements for the club's existing related facilities will also be announced at the appropriate time.
