According to Sky Sport Germany, Matthäus believes announcing the squad on Thursday would disrupt the focus of players competing in European competitions.

Matthäus said he disliked squad announcements on Thursdays even during Klopp's predecessor's tenure. He explained, "Doesn't the German Football Association always want to turn over every stone? In my opinion, this should be one of those Stones." The record appearance holder for the German national team believes announcing the squad on Friday would be more appropriate, giving players enough time to process it.
Matthäus also believes another benefit of announcing the squad on Friday is that if a player is injured in a European competition, there would be no need for a last-minute call-up, which would be advantageous for the national team coach.
"I really hope that Jürgen Klopp will announce the squad on Friday morning or at midday in the future," Matthäus said.
