The Manchester Evening News rated Man United’s players after their victory over Ipswich, with Bruno Fernandes undoubtedly receiving the highest score and Luke Shaw the lowest.

Onana: Made two excellent saves in the first half before being beaten, then made a timely clearance when Davies had a second scoring opportunity with Man United wavering. 7
Dalot: Nearly scored with a left-footed shot and was generally active defensively, though he was outpaced once by Maéda. He performed better in the attacking third in the second half, delivering several good crosses. 7
Maguire: He had a poor first half but found his rhythm in the second half. The goal was fortunate—it should have been disallowed had his shot not been deflected into the net. 6
Lisandro Martínez: His passing clearly reflected his influence on the team, as he regularly delivered the ball cleanly to the feet of midfielders and forwards. 7
Shaw: Was tormented by Fatawu. He stepped out too early for the goal conceded, and his recovery pace was insufficient. Man United need competition at left-back. 5
Tielemans: Good passing and worked well with Mainoo, despite the team lacking a true No. 6. If Man United can control the game as they did in the second half, he will play very comfortably. 7
Mainoo: People have to wonder what Tuchel thinks seeing him perform like this. He was excellent in possession and tough and resilient without the ball. He played deeper than Tielemans and was defensively solid. 8
Mbuemo: He was unfocused, allowing Davies to score, and did not learn his lesson, nearly allowing the left-back to score a second goal. However, he improved as the game progressed. 7
Bruno Fernandes: He performed poorly before scoring in the first half, then became difficult to contain. He scored Man United's third goal, and his long-range shot from near midfield showed his confidence. 9
Rashford: A very active performance, much like the old Rashford—full of drive and aggression when dribbling forward, and diligent in tracking back. 8
Hojlund: Played more like a true No. 9 than last week. He won a penalty and assisted Bruno's first goal with a good pass, with excellent running throughout. 7
Mazraoui: Solid performance at left-back. 6
Yoro: Returned to right-back. 6
Santos: Replaced Mainoo late in the match. 6
Dorgu: Limited playing time made it difficult to make a big impact. 6
Sesko: Came on late as a substitute. 6
Unused substitutes: Darlow, Heaton, Lacey, Zirkzee
