Real Madrid legend and Betfair brand ambassador Luis Figo discussed Real Madrid's summer transfer window operations during the Figosofadas program. He believes that Real Madrid's signings addressed actual squad needs rather than pursuing big-name players; after two consecutive seasons without a trophy, it was necessary for the team to strengthen.

Figo said: "I think Real Madrid's signings have been excellent. They have brought in the players the team needs in some important positions, including center-backs, full-backs, and wingers like Diomande. Yes, overall, their signings have been excellent, driven more by practical necessity than by the players' reputation."

"It was necessary to take this step and strengthen the team, because they haven't won any trophies in the past two seasons. In 2000, Real Madrid activated Figo's 60 million euro release clause at Barcelona, completing one of the most high-profile and arguably most sensational transfers in football history. At that time, Figo also became the most expensive signing in both football and Real Madrid's history. Now, reflecting on the transfer market's evolution from an insider's perspective, Figo believes that some transfer fees have become excessively high.

Figo said: "At some point, this has to stop. Of course, it depends on each club's budget, financial fair play regulations, and other factors, but these amounts are truly excessive. I don't believe a 150 million euro transfer can recoup its costs through jersey sales, as people have always claimed or tried to convince everyone. These signings might pay off on the sporting side, but financially, it's very difficult."

When specifically asked about Diomande's transfer fee, which sports media reported Real Madrid paid 125 million euros for, Figo replied: "Ultimately, that's just the market."

Figo then added: "It's been almost 30 years since my transfer. Even then, I thought the fees paid for many moves were already quite excessive. But as the transfer market has evolved, the amounts being paid for some signings now are even more exorbitant."

Figo disagreed with the notion that Real Madrid's summer signings would significantly alter La Liga's competitive balance.

Figo said: "Unfortunately, from the perspective of title contenders, I don't think this season's La Liga will be much different from previous seasons. In that regard, Real Madrid and Barcelona remain the teams capable of winning the title. Of course, Atlético Madrid also plays a role to some extent, but from this perspective, I don't think there will be much change."
