OGC Nice have announced that Academy graduate Antoine Mendy (22) will miss a big chunk of the Ligue 1 campaign after sustaining an ACL tear in his left knee. The 22-year-old centre-back suffered the injury during last night’s home draw against promoted Ligue 1 side Le Mans FC (1-1). Elye Wahi cancelled out Adil Bourabaa’s early opener. Both teams remain winless this season.

Mendy undertook medical exams on Sunday that unfortunately confirmed the club’s medical staff’s fears. “This is heartbreaking news for Antoine, who grew up at Nice. He progressed through all the stages there before realizing his dream of wearing the red and black jersey with the pros“, OGC Nice add in their statement.
Mendy was a regular starter for OGC Nice last season. He featured 40 times for Les Aiglons. His injury is another serious blow for Olivier Pantaloni’s side, who already had to deal with Laurent Abergel’s ACL tear in pre-season. OGC Nice play Auxerre away next Saturday.
