Celtic have been knocked out of the Champions League qualification rounds after Romanian side CFR Cluj progressed to the play-off round by coming out on top in a seven-goal thriller.

Cluj took a shock first-half lead through a Ciprian Ioan Deac header following a brilliant cross that was whipped into the box by Billel Omrani. James Forrest equalised for the hosts six minutes after the restart to get Celtic back into the tie.

Odsonne Edouard then pounced on a defensive mistake to fire the Scottish champions into the lead on Tuesday night. However, their hard work was undone after captain Scott Brown handled inside the box which Billel Omrani squeezed past Scott Bain. Moments later, Ryan Christie restored Celtic's lead straight from kick-off.

Omrani netted his brace four minutes later to make it 3-3 on the night as the Frenchman produced a good finish from a tight angle. Cluj will go on to face Slavia Prague in the Champions League play-off round while Celtic drop down to the Europa League.
