OFFICIAL: FIFA has officially launched the FIFA ASEAN Cup

According to official FIFA news, FIFA and ASEAN signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding at the 47th ASEAN Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This new Memorandum of Understanding builds on the initial agreement of November 2019, facilitating the implementation of multiple initiatives, such as the FIFA School Football Program, joint health awareness campaigns, and education and development-themed seminars covering South East Asia.

The new five-year Memorandum of Understanding aims to deepen cooperation by leveraging football as a powerful tool for unity, health, and community building, focusing on five key areas: promoting sports integrity, using sports to drive socio-economic development, ensuring the development of football both on and off the field, promoting inclusivity, and supporting resilience in addressing climate change.

Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the launch of the FIFA ASEAN Cup has been confirmed. This is a regional tournament that will bring together all FIFA member associations from South East Asia, with its format modeled after the successful FIFA Arab Cup.

FIFA will cooperate with all football stakeholders, including the Asian Football Confederation, the ASEAN Football Federation, and FIFA member associations of ASEAN member states, and the specific format of the event will be finalized in due course.
