Benin midfielder Jodel Dossou has issued a statement confirming he will not quit national team duties because of criticism.

“I accept criticism, I am fully aware of it and I know that I am often criticised. For me, I’m just trying to give my best. No one really knows what I been through or what I’m still going through today. At some point, I had to put my career a little in the claws, or even accept a certain decline, due to personal situations that I prefer to keep private.

“I know whom I am I keep working hard to get back to my best level. Like I said before, a lot of young people are getting behind. At almost 34 years old, it’s ok to consider leaving them room too. The day my body asks me to rest, I will make that decision myself.

“But it’s certainly not the criticism that will push me to retire internationally.”
