This week, Kevin Keegan returned to Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle for an event, during which he revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Stage four is the latest stage of cancer, meaning the cancer cells have spread to other parts of the body. Keegan's family initially revealed in January that he was battling cancer, and he had undergone "further evaluation for persistent abdominal symptoms" in the hospital, receiving treatment in recent months.

Kevin Keegan said: "I had a car accident and had to undergo surgery. During the scan before the surgery, they found I had cancer. They told me they had a top doctor who could treat my stage four cancer."

"So I went to see him. He was a Liverpool fan, so I knew I wouldn't walk alone (referring to Liverpool's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone'). He said: 'This new therapy has a very high cure rate,' and I said: 'How much?' He said: '33%.' I thought it would be 80% or 90%, but it was only 33%! And I'm still here now."

Kevin Keegan's playing career included spells at Scunthorpe United, Liverpool, Hamburger SV, Southampton, and Newcastle United, among other teams. Later, he managed Newcastle United, Fulham, the England national team, and Manchester City.

He stated that since winning his constructive dismissal lawsuit after leaving in 2009, he "wanted to say goodbye here," as he had not yet watched a match at St. James' Park. However, he is not eager to have a statue of himself erected outside the stadium.

He said: "I'm afraid you'll have to wait until I'm dead to see it. I'm not at all against outdoor statues, but it doesn't mean much to me. My statue is the way you greet me."
