Fiorentina officially confirmed that they will retire Giancarlo Antognoni's No. 10 jersey in the 2026-27 season, which marks the club's centenary.

Fiorentina president Giuseppe B. Commisso wrote: "Giancarlo (Antognoni) is more than just a great star of Fiorentina. Giancarlo is Fiorentina, he is the city of Florence, he is the Viola jersey. He is the most iconic No. 10 in Fiorentina's history. This world champion always keeps Fiorentina in his heart. What he left for the club cannot be measured by appearances, goals, or trophies alone. For this reason, I hope he is with all of us, and we hope he is with all of us."

Commisso Jr. also re-invited Antognoni to attend Fiorentina's match against Frosinone on August 29, which will kick off the club's centenary celebrations. However, Antognoni had previously stated that he would not attend these celebrations due to disagreements with the current management. Commisso said that he and his mother Catherine will come to Florence at the end of August for the centenary celebrations, "to celebrate our history together and look forward to the future."
