According to Sport, Celta de Vigo began their 2026/27 preseason tour on Wednesday, with Moriba and Vecino excluded from the Italy trip after arriving late to training. Coach Giráldez handed down the punishment to both players.

The pair will remain in Vigo for individual training alongside other first-team players outside the coach's plans, including Carles Pérez, Manu Fernández, and Carlos Domínguez.

Club football director Marco Garcés told Faro de Vigo before the team's departure from Peinador Airport: "Claudio Giráldez told me that those traveling to Italy are the players who are already prepared for La Liga's opening round." Both Moriba and Vecino featured in Celta's first two preseason matches against Sporting Gijón and Académico de Viseu.

Celta will face Osasuna in La Liga's opening match at Balaídos on August 16. According to Giráldez, neither Moriba nor Vecino are ready for that fixture.

Moriba has been repeatedly linked with a departure since the end of last season. The arrival of Aleix Favas has intensified midfield competition after an outstanding campaign, while Miguel Román's emergence has added further pressure. These developments have made it significantly harder for the Guinean international to earn a starting role, and this latest disciplinary action is unlikely to help his standing with the coaching staff.

Celta will play two more warm-up matches before the season begins: against Sassuolo on Wednesday and Napoli on Saturday.

Abdoulaye Faye, the latest first-team arrival, is also on the roster. The Senegalese center-back officially joined this week on loan from Leverkusen and is expected to feature during the training camp as he completes his preseason preparations.

The status of goalkeeper Bayindir remains uncertain. He has not yet joined the preseason squad, and it is unclear whether he will travel directly to Italy to complete his preparations with the team.
