Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has said in an interview that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has assembled one of the world's finest midfield trios following the club's signing of Bruno Guimaraes.

According to English media, Arsenal are set to officially announce Guimaraes' signing after reaching a £75 million agreement with Newcastle.

Shearer said: "Arsenal have signed a world-class player in Guimaraes, there's no doubt about that. They've signed someone who is comfortable on the ball under pressure and can deliver decisive passes. His attitude has been excellent, as we've seen at Newcastle. So without question, he will improve the team. I think with Rice, Odegaard, and Guimaraes, it's hard to find a better midfield combination."

Shearer admitted he is "very disappointed" by Guimaraes' decision to leave Newcastle, but he "understands" his desire to join Arsenal.

Shearer said: "From my perspective, there are two sides to this. First, from a Newcastle fan's point of view, I've watched him play for four or five years. I'm disappointed because I've seen him produce magical moments, seen how good he is, and seen how he can change a game. I've seen him kiss the badge, interact with the fans, see him appointed captain, and hear him speak about how much he loves the club. So from that perspective, yes, I'm very disappointed.

"But from a professional standpoint and as a professional footballer, I completely understand. He'll be 29 in a few months, and he's moving to a title-challenging side. He's seen the manager leave, seen Isak leave, seen Gordon leave, and also seen Tonali depart.

"The club is very different now compared to 12 or 18 months ago. My consistent view is that if someone wants to leave, let them go. And he hasn't gone about it the wrong way—I think he's handled it correctly.

"So from a player's perspective, I can understand it. It's just from a fan's perspective that when we see someone kiss the badge and see what it means to them, we all get emotional about it, don't we?

"But every time he put on the black and white shirt, you couldn't complain about his attitude or his professionalism. But from a professional standpoint, I understand why he's moved to a title-challenging team."
