Former Liverpool defender Carragher said he was "certain" Salah would move to AC Milan or Juventus until the player signed a new contract with Trabzonspor in Turkey: "I think he could reduce his wage demands to join a bigger club."

Salah officially joined Trabzonspor as a free transfer after ending his nine-year career with Liverpool in the Premier League.

The "Egyptian Pharaoh" previously played for Roma in Serie A before moving to Liverpool in 2017, and had also played for Fiorentina before that. Before completing his move to Trabzonspor, there were brief reports that he could return to Serie A.

Liverpool legend Carragher was among those who believed Salah would return to Serie A after his Premier League career. In an interview with "Football Ramble," he said he thought Salah could reduce his wage demands "to join a bigger club, such as AC Milan or Juventus."

"I never believed he would go to Saudi Arabia, primarily because his ability far exceeds the standard of that league. I think he could definitely play in Serie A. In my view, the Turkish Super League is still too low a level," Carragher said.

"I was certain he would eventually join AC Milan, Juventus, or a similar club. Perhaps wages were an issue holding him back. Of course, I don't know him and have never spoken to him.

"But he's like Cristiano Ronaldo—extremely competitive and stats matter greatly to him. Of course, he could perform at that level in the Turkish Super League, but I think he wants to play for a genuinely bigger club.

"Clearly his wage demands have put some teams off, but I think he could lower his demands somewhat to join a bigger club like AC Milan, Juventus, or similar teams playing at San Siro, still competing in major competitions, still playing in European tournaments. The Turkish Super League feels... I just feel he's better than that."
