On August 9, Italian Football Federation President Gabriele Gravina gave an exclusive interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport, discussing key decisions since taking office, including the national team manager selection, the Pirlo controversy, contact with Guardiola, and plans for Italian football's future development.

50 Days of Continuous Controversy: Moving Forward Requires Cooperation

The 50 days since Gravina took office have been tumultuous, marked by verbal clashes with Italian Minister for Sport Andrea Abodi.

Regarding external discussions about conflicts between them, Gravina stated, "Abodi and I have already communicated. Now our common goal is to move forward and pursue important work that requires cooperation from both sides."

Gravina declined to respond further to Abodi's previous comments, saying, "I'm not the type of person who responds to every single word. What Abodi and I need to focus on is the development of the entire system."

Six-Year Plan: Results Matter, But So Does Developing Young Talent

Speaking about future goals, Gravina stated that Italian football cannot focus solely on short-term results.

"We must return to the theme of cultural reform."

"This doesn't mean ignoring immediate matches, such as the upcoming Nations League."

"But at the same time, we must focus on grassroots development and nurturing young players, because they are the future."

Italy will face several important competitions in the coming years, including the 2028 European Championship, the 2030 World Cup, and the 2032 European Championship.

However, Gravina acknowledged that challenges remain in developing young Italian talent.

"We know where our future goals lie."

"But since losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina and missing out on the major tournament, we have not seen any truly promising emerging talents."

2032 European Championship: No Time to Waste

Regarding the 2032 European Championship hosting rights, Italy will co-host with Turkey.

Currently, Turkey has a clear advantage in infrastructure, while only the Allianz Stadium in Turin fully meets the required standards in Italy.

In response, Gravina said, "I'm not worried, but I'm the kind of person who doesn't want to waste a single minute."

"We will rely on cooperation from all relevant agencies to ensure the project progresses."

When asked about potential host cities, he said, "The final decision will need to be evaluated by the technical department."

"But theoretically, the list could include Italy's five major cities: Turin, Milan, Rome, Florence, and Naples."

Relationship with FIFA: Italy's Place in European Football

Finally, Gravina discussed the future of FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

His answer was clear: "We are Italy, and Italy is inseparably connected to UEFA."

Gravina remains optimistic about Italian football's future.

"Now we feel a positive atmosphere and new energy."

"But ultimately, everything must be proven on the field."
