Konrad Laimer, Kim Min-jae and Jamal Musiala all went off with fitness concerns in Bayern Munich's final pre-season friendly versus RB Leipzig, overshadowing a 3-1 win for the Bundesliga champions.

Vincent Kompany's team were still without some of their World Cup stars – including England captain Harry Kane and France creator Michael Olise – at the Allianz Arena, one week out from facing Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

Kompany still named a strong team, though Bayern suffered a blow only 10 minutes in as Laimer had to be substituted after appearing to take a hit to his right thigh.

The German champions opened the scoring only three minutes after Laimer limped off, however, as Ridle Baku's attempted clearance clattered off another white Leipzig shirt and dropped nicely for Luis Diaz, who whipped his finish into the far corner.

Martin Demichelis' visitors improved after the interval, and after half-time substitute Johan Bakayoko forced a fingertip save from Manuel Neuer and drove another effort off the base of the post, Brajan Gruda equalised with a sumptuous, 52nd-minute volley.

Leipzig were only level for five minutes, however, as new Bayern acquisition Nathaniel Brown slotted a one-v-one finish through the legs of Maarten Vandevoordt, following a defence-splitting pass from Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Kim became the next Bayern player to suffer an injury scare and was withdrawn in the 69th minute, with Ismael Saibari coming on for his Bayern debut and Musiala also introduced as Kompany took the opportunity to make six changes. 

Saibari and Musiala combined wonderfully for Bayern's third goal, with the latter curling home following a silky run and offload from the Morocco man, but there was another concerning moment to come for Bayern.

Musiala went to ground off the ball as a stretcher was brought out. The Germany international was eventually able to trudge off the pitch just 17 minutes after entering the fray, though he appeared to be suffering from the effects of soaring temperatures, rather than an injury.

Bayern counting the cost of pre-season win

Coaches often say that coming through pre-season friendlies without injuries is the single most important thing, far outweighing the need for results at this time of year.

And though Bayern played some impressive football against a team that will hope to challenge them in the Bundesliga over the coming months, they were left to count the cost of this outing.

The versatile Laimer – capable of playing at right-back or in midfield – would be a major loss, while Bayern can ill-afford to be without Kim, with fellow centre-back Dayot Upamecano yet to return to match action after helping France finish fourth at the World Cup.

Initial reports suggested Musiala's exit was related to dizziness, rather than an injury, which would be a major relief for Kompany. The Germany international missed most of the 2025-26 season due to various issues, the most significant of which was a broken fibula he sustained at last year's Club World Cup.

Bayern only had nine shots to Leipzig's 10, though they did win the expected goals (xG) battle by 1.39 to 0.81. With Kane, Olise and company yet to come back into the squad, they will be confident about their prospects for 2026-27 – assuming they are close to a clean bill of health.
