According to Diario AS, former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales will complete his FIFA ban this month, but he also faced sanctions from the Spanish Sports Arbitration Court. August 20th marks the third anniversary of the end of the relevant sanction period.

Luis Rubiales' ban has entered its final stage. August 20th marks the third anniversary of Spain's World Cup victory in Australia and New Zealand. That team achieved great success, and Rubiales was then the president of the Spanish Football Federation, but his behavior during the celebrations, from gestures in the presidential box to kissing player Jennifer Hermoso on the lips, ultimately led to his ban. This ban is about to end, after which he can resume football-related activities, from which he has been prohibited for the past 36 months. He is currently still subject to two bans, issued by FIFA and the Spanish Sports Arbitration Court, respectively. FIFA reacted first, imposing a provisional ban on August 26th, and later confirming a 3-year ban on the grounds of "offensive behavior during the Women's World Cup final and violation of fair play principles." This ban prohibits him from participating in any activities related to domestic and international football, and he will complete the ban period in the coming days, specifically on the 26th.
Subsequently, the Spanish Sports Arbitration Court handled the case differently, sentencing the football administrator to a 1-year and 6-month ban due to the kissing incident; he received the same penalty for grabbing his genitals in the presidential box. The duration of the ban is the same as FIFA's, but the Spanish Sports Arbitration Court's ban is limited to not holding national-level football federation positions. The ruling was issued on November 15, 2023, and the ban should end this November. About two years later, a criminal trial was held at the National Court of San Fernando de Henares, attracting high media attention. The court ruled that the kiss was not consensual at the time, and Rubiales was sentenced to a fine of 10,800 euros for sexual assault and ordered to pay 3,000 euros in compensation to the victim for civil liability; he was not convicted of coercion.
Rubiales also appeared as an investigated party in the case materials for the "Spanish Super Cup case," which is currently still in the judicial phase. During this period, he published the book "Killing Rubiales" to defend himself. Recently, he has frequently appeared in various media outlets. He talked about the 2030 World Cup, a project he was one of the promoters of when he was president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation; in addition, he discussed Spanish domestic politics, FIFA, and various other topics. He has also stated in multiple interviews and public speeches that his goal is to be able to work and support himself, and he currently has no intention of returning to the world of football. However, if he changes his mind, he is very close to resuming football-related work.
