In the opening match of the new Premier League season, Liverpool drew 2-2 away to Newcastle. Liverpool midfielder Szoboszlai, who scored the equalising penalty in the match, spoke to NBC Sports after the game.

Are you satisfied with a point, or disappointed you didn’t win?

I'm disappointed we didn't win the game. Although we were fortunate to get the penalty, it was great to score. But I think we could have got more from this match. We should have performed better in the second half. I thought we played quite well in the first half. However, this is the first game, we got one point, and we move on.

Dominik, with Salah's departure and Van Dijk getting older, the leadership dynamics will shift. I've watched you play, and I believe you could be a future leader and captain of Liverpool. With a new manager arriving, how much pressure will you feel in communicating his vision to the rest of the squad?

Thank you. This is a new coach, and obviously everyone is fully motivated. I think it’s natural to want to show him that you want to be part of this squad, part of the starting eleven, and one of the leaders. When I joined Liverpool, that was my whole plan: to break into the starting lineup and give everything. If you train hard and do everything right every day, the rewards come naturally. So I’m still working hard for that every day. We still have Virgil, even though he’s 34 or 35 years old. But I think he’s still one of the best centre-backs in the world. So it’s great to share the dressing room with him and see what the future holds.

Regarding the manager, are there any differences? How do his coaching methods and training compare to Slot’s?

Since I started playing, I've never discussed the differences between managers. I really admire Jürgen, I admire Arne, and I like Andoni. For me, if you're managing Liverpool, you have to be very good. Obviously, they have different philosophies. He prefers direct, attacking football: fighting for one-on-ones, competing until the final whistle, and never giving up. That's what Liverpool Football Club represents. So I'm really happy he's here, and I'll give my all.

Dominik, when you lose a player like Salah, who scores so many goals, does that mean everyone has to collectively take on more responsibility?

Yes. Mo's worst Premier League season probably still included 30 goals. That says everything. So we have to step up, and everyone needs to take on more responsibility in terms of goals and assists. Hopefully, we can do that. We have incredible strikers in Alexis and Hugo – hopefully he returns soon – as well as wingers and midfielders too. In defence, we have Jérémie, Ibrahima, and Virgil for set pieces. We have a great team, and the future is bright.
