Match Report

Roberto De Zerbi's team were much-improved from last week's 3-0 defeat to Brentford in the first half of Saturday's game, but they were kept at bay by the impressive Lukas Hornicek before Newcastle stormed to victory in the second period.
Elanga finished on the spin in the 62nd minute, and only 10 minutes later, Wissa found the net acrobatically after Spurs failed to defend a deep corner delivery.
While Spurs are yet to pick up a point or score a goal and sit bottom of the early-season table, Newcastle are up to third following their first competitive victory under Matthias Jaissle.
Tottenham survived an early scare when Antonin Kinsky flapped at Elanga's cross-shot, though they were on top for much of the first half, with fellow Czechia goalkeeper Hornicek starring at the other end.
Hornicek parried efforts from Mathys Tel and Andy Robertson, as well as getting Jan Paul van Hecke's header clear at the second attempt, while Pedro Porro was frustrated by an outstanding recovery challenge from Lewis Hall as the first 45 minutes ended goalless.
Newcastle improved markedly after the interval, though, and after a few close calls – including a 20-yard curler from Hall that rose above the top-right corner – Elanga put them ahead.
He turned on the right side of the area after Amar Dedic headed Nico Gonzalez's raking pass into his path, with his left-footed shot coming off the inside of the far post before it trickled over the line.
And when Wissa hooked beyond Kinsky following a far-post knock-down from substitute Nick Woltemade, the majority of those present at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were stunned into silence, with the hosts never looking likely to mount a fightback.

New lease of life for Elanga and Wissa
Following their dismal opening-day defeat at Brentford, De Zerbi made five changes to his starting XI for this game, marking the first time Spurs have ever made that many alterations to their lineup between their first and second matches in a Premier League campaign.
New signing Omar Marmoush was among those brought in, while Newcastle boss Jaissle also handed an immediate debut to a player signed from Manchester City this week, in midfielder Nico.
And Jaissle's changes had the greater impact as Newcastle claimed their fourth victory in the space of five Premier League visits to Tottenham. Their 14 away wins over Spurs in the competition are their most against any club.
Spurs must be sick of the sight of Wissa, in particular, as he now has three goals in his last four Premier League games against them.
He has looked a player reborn following a tough 2025-26 campaign, and Woltemade – who also struggled at times last term – assisted Wissa's goal with his first touch off the bench.
Another player who joined Newcastle for big money last year and endured a quiet debut season is Elanga, but he is now the first player to score in the Magpies' opening two games of a Premier League campaign since Alan Shearer in 2003-04.
He will hope to continue his excellent form at home to Bournemouth next week, while Spurs visit Nottingham Forest with the pressure already growing on De Zerbi.
