Matthäus revealed Greek fans' reactions to Borussia Dortmund's two major signings. The Germany international record holder stated on Sky Sports on Saturday evening that during his stay in Greece, he spoke with fans of the two Greek talents, Karetsas and Konstantelias, and "they almost congratulated the Borussia Dortmund management for these signings." However, he also acknowledged that the Greek side "naturally had a bit of a soft spot" for them.

Matthäus continued: "They have the ability to help Borussia Dortmund not just this season, but also in the future." He also affirmed Borussia Dortmund's squad planning: "Dortmund knows who they signed and why they signed these players. The team is not just thinking about next season, but also about the future. Several veterans have left, and age has caused their form to decline."
"Dortmund has no time"
The legend also spoke about a third new signing who has already impressed in preseason preparations: "It's not just the two Greek newcomers, but also Gądor from Salzburg. What a player! Nearly two meters tall and quick. He has everything a centre-back needs." The defender has already started in the German Super Cup and the first Bundesliga match.
"But Dortmund has no time. Nico (Kovac) is very clear about this. Expectations from outside are high, sometimes even too high," Matthäus reminded. However, he still highly praised the Borussia Dortmund coach: "Nico has done an excellent job in these 18 months."
The two Greek players immediately repaid the coach's faith with their performances. Karetsas provided an assist for the opening goal against Hamburg, and Konstantelias then scored to make it 2-0. However, the new signing from PAOK Thessaloniki also raised concern. He was forced to leave the field in the second half due to injury.
