According to Chelsea correspondent Kieran Gill, E. Martinez has been registered in time and is therefore eligible to play for Chelsea in today's match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea previously officially announced the signing of E. Martinez from Aston Villa, stating that both parties had signed a three-year contract. However, different statements regarding the contract length subsequently appeared on social media.

A fan questioned the reporter about the discrepancy between Chelsea's official announcement of a 3-year contract and the "2+1" claim circulating online. Gill clarified the confusion.

The Chelsea correspondent explained that Chelsea typically includes renewal options when officially announcing player contracts. E. Martinez actually signed a 2-year contract with a 1-year renewal option, commonly referred to as a "2+1" deal, rather than a fixed 3-year contract.

In other words, E. Martinez's base contract with Chelsea is for two years, and the club can extend it by an additional year if conditions are met and they choose to exercise the renewal clause.

Gill also confirmed that E. Martinez has been registered within the required timeframe, so his participation in this Premier League round will not be affected.

However, whether he will make his Chelsea debut against Brighton & Hove Albion will ultimately be Alonso's decision.
