According to Chris Wheeler, Daily Mail's Manchester United correspondent, Man Utd has begun negotiations to extend Bruno Fernandes' contract.

Reports indicate that Man Utd has initiated contract talks with captain Bruno Fernandes, hoping to secure their key player with a new agreement.

Sources confirm the club has made initial contact with Fernandes' representatives, aiming to complete a contract extension to keep the Portuguese star at Old Trafford.

Fernandes' current contract has 10 months remaining and he earns £220,000 per week, though Man Utd holds the option to extend for a further year.

Despite fresh speculation about Fernandes' future this summer, Man Utd remains committed to keeping him and plans to reach a new deal with the player before the end of the year.

The 31-year-old Bruno Fernandes once again proved his importance to Erik ten Hag's side on Sunday. Following his PFA Player of the Year award earlier this week, he delivered a hat-trick and an assist in Man Utd's 5-2 victory over Ipswich.

Bruno Fernandes has become a target for Galatasaray this summer. The Turkish club is reportedly ready to offer him a four-year deal that would double his current wages, along with a £3.5 million signing bonus.

Juventus and AC Milan are also said to be monitoring Fernandes' situation at Old Trafford, although his £56.7 million release clause expired in July.

This follows summer speculation last year about Fernandes' future, when he came close to joining Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal. His representative Miguel Pinho negotiated with the Riyadh-based club, which offered a three-year contract worth approximately £200 million and was willing to pay Man Utd a £100 million transfer fee.

Fernandes ultimately rejected the offer but later admitted feeling "hurt" by Man Utd's willingness to accept Al-Hilal's proposal.

Since joining Man Utd in 2020, Fernandes has made 329 appearances for the club, scoring 110 goals and providing 109 assists. In a recent interview, he reiterated his desire to stay at the club and continue competing at the highest level. Last season, he set a Premier League record with 21 assists in a single campaign.
